Day 3 of our Jaipur–Goa Mega Road Trip Series 🚗🐾
We set out from Navi Mumbai and reached Morjim, North Goa after an 11-hour journey covering 510 kms through the iconic NH66 (Mumbai–Goa Highway). Driving with family and our pug Maggie 🐶 in our Tata Safari, this day turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our road trip.
🌧️ Part 1 – The Monsoon Magic:
The NH66 drive during monsoons is nothing short of breathtaking. From lush green ghats to rain-soaked roads, endless waterfalls cascading from mountains, and misty landscapes – this is hands down one of the most scenic routes in India. We stopped multiple times to capture the views, click pictures, and soak in the beauty of the Konkan coast.
🛣️ Part 2 – NH66 Road Review (Sep 2025):
Many travellers ask – “Is NH66 doable?” Here’s my honest take:
✔️ About 75% of the stretch is in good condition and enjoyable to drive.
❌ Around 25% has rough patches, especially near Sangameshwar, where broken roads and diversions slow you down.
👉 Verdict: While it’s not perfect, the scenic beauty outweighs the rough patches, and I’d still recommend it for monsoon and regular travellers who enjoy the drive as much as the destination.
⚠️ Reality Check on Travel Time:
There’s a common claim by some influencers and even official sources that Mumbai to Goa can be done in 6–8 hours. From our experience, this is unrealistic and misleading. The true estimate is 11–13 hours including essential breaks. Trying to rush in 8 hours not only stresses your body but also makes the journey unsafe. Road trips are meant to be enjoyed – not raced.
